All 14 Top-Ranked Teams Accept PGL Bucharest 2027 Invites, Leaving Just Two Spots Open

PGL Bucharest 2027, the opening event of the 2027 Counter-Strike 2 season, will have every one of its 14 invited teams on board, with the final two places set to be decided in a European closed qualifier from October 16-20. According to HLTV, every team among the 14 highest-ranked in October's invitational ranking accepted its invite.

The event will be played in Bucharest, Romania, from January 17 to 24, 2027. HLTV reports it will take place in PGL's studio. The tournament carries a total of $1,400,000, split between $1,000,000 in winnings and $400,000 in VRS bonuses. The Main Event will be played on LAN, while the qualifiers are online.

A full field, and a scheduling clash

The strength of the invited field matters because of where Bucharest sits on the calendar. HLTV notes that the elite teams have, in effect, prioritized PGL's event over BLAST Bounty, the season's opening tournament. Bounty is set for Malta across two weeks, January 11-24, so its second week overlaps with PGL Bucharest.

BLAST will not announce its Bounty invite list until next month, since that event will use November's invitational ranking rather than October's. Back in March, BLAST announced it was dropping the online portion of the tournament and cutting the field from 32 teams to 16 for 2027.

PGL says the 14 teams were invited directly via the Global VRS:

How the last two places will be decided

The route to Bucharest for everyone else runs through Europe. PGL has opened registration for two online open qualifiers, both played as single elimination. Matches are best-of-one, switching to best-of-three from the quarterfinals onward.

  • Open Qualifier #1: October 11-12
  • Open Qualifier #2: October 13-14

One team from each open qualifier advances to the European Closed Qualifier. They will join six teams invited via the European VRS to make an eight-team field. The closed qualifier is double elimination, with every match a best-of-three, and the top two teams qualify for PGL Bucharest 2027.

Teams must read the official ruleset before registering. PGL has published its 2027 rulebook and registration pages for both open qualifiers on its official channels.

What it means for the 2027 opener

With the invited field locked in, Bucharest begins the PGL CS2 2027 calendar with the elite of the October VRS already committed. The two qualifier teams will round out the field after the closed qualifier concludes on October 20. Once the final lineup is set, PGL has said it will announce it through its official channels.
