ESL Pro League Katowice Playoffs Preview: Vitality Lead the Chase at Spodek

The field is set for the ESL Pro League Season 24 playoffs in Katowice. Eight Counter-Strike 2 teams will play a single-elimination bracket in front of a live crowd at the Spodek Arena from October 9 to 11, with a $1 million prize pool on the line.

Two unbeaten Swiss runs, a champion whose 13-match win streak has been snapped, and a newly formed lineup making a Tier 1 debut give the weekend plenty of uncertainty. Vitality and MOUZ look best placed, but the quarterfinals feature several matchups that could go either way.

How the eight teams got here

Season 24 opened with a 16-team Swiss Group Stage in which teams needed three wins within five matches to advance. Five days later, the playoff field looks like this:

Team
Swiss record
Team Vitality3-0
MOUZ3-0
Team Falcons3-1
Aurora Gaming3-1
1win3-1
Team Spirit3-2
FURIA3-2
PARIVISION3-2

Spirit, FURIA and PARIVISION all needed the full five rounds to get through.

Format and schedule

Every playoff series is a best-of-three except the Grand Final, which is a best-of-five. The quarterfinals all take place on Friday, with the semifinals on Saturday and the third-place match and Grand Final on Sunday.

Quarterfinal breakdown

1win vs Aurora

1win have been one of the stories of the event. The recently formed lineup is making its Tier 1 debut as a team, and after an opening loss to Vitality it beat G2, Legacy and Spirit.

Aurora lost only to Falcons in Swiss, beating 9z, BETBOOM and FURIA. The team has improved steadily since a mid-season roster shuffle and finished as runner-up at StarSeries Fall last month. 1win have momentum, but Aurora's big-match experience and current form give them a slight edge on paper.

Vitality vs PARIVISION

Vitality arrive as StarSeries Fall champions and carried that form into Katowice, beating 1win, NAVI and Falcons for a 3-0 start. The Falcons win came as a reverse sweep.

PARIVISION had a tougher road. After beating Legacy, the CIS roster lost to Spirit and FURIA and was one defeat from elimination. It then beat G2 and, in Round 5, NAVI. Given the gap in form, Vitality are clear favorites.

FURIA vs MOUZ

FURIA beat BETBOOM, lost to MOUZ, beat PARIVISION, lost to Aurora and edged past 9z to qualify.

MOUZ were one of the two teams to go 3-0, beating M80, FURIA and Spirit without dropping a map. Their recent results are strong too: they won BLAST Bounty Summer and were runners-up at BLAST Open Porto last month.

Familiar opponents

This is the third FURIA vs MOUZ meeting in the past month, and the head-to-head is currently level. MOUZ hold the edge in form, but FURIA have already shown they can take games off them.

Falcons vs Spirit

This is the most evenly matched series of the round. Falcons haven't followed up on their Cologne Major success, but they opened with 2-0 wins over TYLOO and Aurora, lost the reverse sweep to Vitality and then beat NAVI to qualify.

Spirit have won two of their last tournaments, including EWC 2026, but Katowice has been a struggle. They beat ShindeN and PARIVISION, then saw a 13-match win streak end with losses to MOUZ and 1win, before a comeback against M80 secured their place. Spirit's recent pedigree favors them, but Falcons' individual talent keeps this series open.

Who can win it?

Vitality are the strongest candidate. They recovered from a brief dip in form to win StarSeries Fall and have kept that level here. They are also in the more favorable half of the bracket, avoiding Spirit, Falcons, FURIA and MOUZ until the Grand Final.

The other half looks tougher. MOUZ appear to be in the best form there, but the Falcons-Spirit winner is also a credible title threat. With those three on roughly equal footing, the second Grand Final spot is the harder one to call.

The first answers arrive on Friday, when 1win and Aurora open the playoffs at 10:30 CEST.
