League of Legends Worlds 2026: T1's Four-Peat Bid Headlines Return to North America

The League of Legends World Championship is heading back to North America for the first time since 2022, and it arrives with one of the sport's biggest storylines already in place: T1 returning as defending champions, chasing what would be an unprecedented four consecutive titles after their 2023 and 2024 wins.

Worlds 2026 begins on October 15 and runs through the Grand Final on November 14 at the Barclays Center in New York, where 19 teams from six regions will compete for the Summoner's Cup.

A North American host year always raises the stakes for the LCS, but the bigger sub-plot is T1's pursuit of history. No org has won four straight World Championships, and with the LCK sending four teams once again, T1 will have to get through a gauntlet of familiar regional rivals before ever facing international competition. Every other qualified team, meanwhile, is building its run around stopping exactly that.

Format: Play-In, Swiss, and Knockouts

Worlds 2026 keeps the three-stage structure introduced in recent years, but the seeding and pathways differ by stage.

Play-In Stage — Four teams enter: the #3 seeds from the LCS, LEC, and LCP, plus the #2 seed from CBLOL. They compete in a double-elimination bracket, with all series played as best-of-five, for a single spot in the Swiss Stage.

Swiss Stage — Sixteen teams take part: four each from the LCK and LPL, the top two seeds from the LCS, LEC, and LCP, the CBLOL champion, and the Play-In winner. The stage runs across five rounds, with records reset each round based on results. Teams that reach three wins advance to the Knockout Stage; teams that reach three losses are eliminated. Non-elimination, non-qualifying matches are best-of-one, while any match that could qualify or eliminate a team is played best-of-three.

Knockout Stage — The eight Swiss Stage qualifiers move into a single-elimination bracket: four quarterfinals, two semifinals, and the Grand Final, all played best-of-five.

Format Refresher

Best-of-one matches only apply to Swiss Stage games that can neither qualify nor eliminate a team. Any series with a team's fate on the line is played as a best-of-three.

Where to watch

Riot Games will broadcast Worlds 2026 on its official Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok channels, with live updates also posted across the tournament's X and Instagram accounts. A list of official co-streamers has not yet been announced, so fans looking for alternative broadcast options will need to wait for Riot to confirm those partnerships closer to the event.

With the full schedule locked and the 19-team field set apart from Brazil's final two representatives, attention now shifts to the Play-In Stage draw and the first matches on October 15.
