Invictus Gaming have claimed the LPL's fourth and final seed at Worlds 2026, beating JD Gaming 3-1 in the lower bracket final of the LPL 2026 Regional Finals on Saturday, September 19. The win completes China's Worlds lineup and sends JDG into the 2026 Demacia Cup Global Invitational, which begins October 3.
For iG, this is a quick turnaround. The organization's last Worlds ended in 17th place at the 2025 World Championship after a 1-3 Play-In loss to T1. This time, direct seeding means iG skip the Play-In and enter the Swiss Stage in Allen, Texas. They will be joined there by fellow LPL representatives Anyone's Legend, Bilibili Gaming and Top Esports.
How the series unfolded
iG led from the opening game, taking it in 33 minutes with an 11-3 kill advantage. JiaQi finished on six kills and two assists on Tristana, while Rookie added four kills and five assists on one death on Syndra.
Game two followed a similar pattern. iG closed it out in 32 minutes for a 2-0 lead, with JiaQi topping the kill board again on Ezreal (nine kills, five assists, four deaths). Wei was named game MVP on jungle Qiyana at 5/1/10, and Rookie contributed five kills on Aurora.
JDG stayed alive in game three, holding off an iG comeback attempt in a 34-minute game. Junjia carried the load on Trundle with 11 kills, 11 assists and one death, forcing a fourth game.
That was as far as JDG got. iG dismantled them in game four, with Wei going 6/3/13 on Vi to close out the series. It described Wei as a constant early-game presence who arrived at skirmishes with precise timing, then used backline access in teamfights and denied JDG's carries room to move. His two biggest performances came in the game that put iG 2-0 up and the one that ended the series.
Rookie's return to the main stage
The qualification also marks a milestone for Rookie, the veteran midlaner and 2018 World Champion. It is his first Worlds main stage appearance in seven years. Beyond the Syndra and Aurora games, he posted 6/3/8 on Ryze and 6/2/12 on Ahri.
Rookie is one of five players in the current iG lineup, alongside TheShy, Wei, JiaQi and Meiko.
A season that nearly slipped away
The route to Texas was rough. According to GosuGamers, iG began 2026 by winning the Demacia Cup but then struggled in the league. They finished 5th-6th in LPL 2026 Split 1 and missed the League of Legends Esports World Cup 2026. In Split 2 they placed 9th-12th. After several roster changes, they settled on the current five by July.
Invictus Gaming's 2026 season
The Split 3 run put the roster in the Regional Finals, though the sources describe its seeding differently. GosuGamers calls iG the third seed in the Championship Point standings.
iG's first shot at a Worlds spot came in the upper bracket final, where Top Esports beat them in four games. That set up the lower bracket final against JDG, who had beaten Team WE in the lower bracket semifinals.
JDG's near miss
For JD Gaming, the loss extends a losing streak at this stage. GosuGamers notes that JDG have now missed Worlds three years running, finishing third in the LPL Regional Finals in each of them. They will play in the Demacia Cup Global Invitational alongside Team WE, who finished fourth.
What comes next
JDG and Team WE are next in action, at the Demacia Cup Global Invitational starting October 3. The four LPL Worlds representatives begin their run in the Swiss Stage on October 23. For iG, that means a first main stage appearance since 2019 for Rookie, and a chance to improve on last year's early exit.
